Never Ending Dream
03:13
|
|||
It’s the never-ending dream
In my mind
And you are here
It’s the way you look at me
That breaks my heart
My dear
It’s an ever-lasting love
In my mind
And you are here
It’s the way you look at me
That breaks my heart
My dear
It’s the never-ending dream
In my mind
And you are here
It’s the way you look at me
That breaks my heart
My dear

Copper Pennies
03:36
|
|||
I could check into the motel under an alias
I could be you tonight, Christine
I know you got no money
‘Cause you told me so
I know you got no credit
I still love you so
You are the songbird of skid music row
Wish I could go everywhere
You can go
If I could be you, girl
I’d never go home
If I could be you, girl
I’d never go home
I’d kick my turquoise cowgirl boots
Under the motel bed
Then I’d rest my weary, pretty little gypsy head
Then I’d hitch a ride to texas with a good-lookin’ man
He’s a poet with kitchenette in his Econo van
If I could be you, girl
I’d never go home
If I could be you, girl
I’d never go home
There was a time I felt so down I didn’t know what to do
Over the steel bridge
Copper pennies were the wishes that I threw
It rained all day, it rained all night
Those copper pennies changed my life
I looked into the bathroom mirror
Instead of me, you appeared
God bless copper penny wishes and that old steel bridge
For givin’ me the chance to make this Freaky Friday switch
My new tour bus has your namesake splashed across the side
It says Christine in rhinestones and lights up with a neon sign
If you could be me, girl
You’d never go home
If you could be me, girl
You’d never go home
If you could be me, girl
You’d never go home

From The Holiday
01:23
|
|||
There’s a woman on the horn that’s missin’ me
Every time I go away it seems she bleeds
Scars on her legs that she can hide
But she don’t do so well with the pain in her eyes
Can’t touch her from the Holiday
‘Til we sail two hundred miles away
I can’t help but think that she might be movin’ on
Excuse me, I have to take this call
Excuse me, I have to take this call
And I can’t help but think that she might be movin’ on
Excuse me, I have to take this call
Excuse me, I have to take this call

Keep On Drivin'
03:37
|
|||
We’ve been together nearly twenty years
Had our share of laughter, just as many tears
We’ve seen sunny days and sleepless nights
I stood beside you when you were wrong or right
If you feel your heart has moved on
And feel easier on your own
And it seems our need for love takes us down
Different roads
Keep on drivin’
Keep on drivin’
You’ve been gettin’ home just before dawn
Up ‘til now I was happy to play along
I don’t need no reasons, I don’t need proof
I’d be satisfied with the simple truth
‘Cause if you feel your heart has moved on
And it’s easier on your own
‘Cause it seems our need for love takes us down
Different roads
Keep on drivin’
Keep on drivin’
Keep on drivin’
You can’t put your love in chains
And the heart is meant for freedom
And you feel so much pain inside
And it seems our need for love takes us down
Different roads
Keep on drivin’
Keep on drivin’
Keep on drivin’
Keep on drivin’

Room 243
02:54
|
|||
I pull up the drive at the Holiday
A swank motel, just north of the bay
The neon sign gleams vacancy
And beat with my heart here, in room 243
Footsteps in the hall, it’s quarter to eight
Babe, is it you, why are you late
Oh where could you be
Alone in my room at the Holiday
A bottle of wine, a red rose bouquet (hey, hey)
I take off my shoes, lay on the bed
Thoughts of you are runnin’ through my head
We had a date, but where could you be
I thought it was clear, here, room 143
Here in room 143/243
Here in room 243/143
Here in room 143/243
Oh where you could be
If I’m here in room 243/143
Room 143/243

Lackie's Men
03:10
|
|||
They’re hammering, drilling, carrying more shit in
Tear up the floor and put it back down again
There’s so many I just can’t count them all
107 are clattering in the hall
When the sun comes up
The Lackie’s men come out
They all come to work
They all start to shout
They jump those ropes
Ring that bell
Step into the ring with the Holiday Motel
Lackie’s men, Lackie’s men
Comin’ on round the bend
They never miss a note, they never miss a beat
Lackie’s men, Lackie’s men
Doin’ the impossible again
I just saw one nailing up a sheet
Oh you’re never gonna beat
Oh Lackie’s men
There’s a man up on the roof and a dog up in the tree
Miles of pillows as far as I can see
Window frame just smacked me on the nose
Nails on the floor comin’ up between my toes
When the sun comes up
The Lackie’s men come out
They all come to work
They all start to shout
They jump those ropes
Ring that bell
Step into the ring with the Holiday Motel
Lackie’s men, Lackie’s men
Comin’ on round the bend
They never let it go, they never let it drop
Lackie’s men, Lackie’s men
Doin’ the impossible again
I just saw one dancing with a mop
Oh you’re never gonna stop
Oh Lackie’s men
Lackie’s men, Lackie’s men
Comin’ on round the bend
Add it to the list, they’ll get around to it
Lackie’s men, Lackie’s men
Doin’ the impossible again
Round or square ya bet they’ll make it fit
Yeah you’re never gonna quit
Oh Lackie’s men
Yeah you’re never gonna stop
Oh Lackie’s men
Yeah you’re never gonna beat
Oh Lackie’s men

Holiday Motel
02:18
|
|||
Well they say that you ain’t married anymore
You was gone before the wedding cake got stale
Well they knew something was up when they kept on seein’ your truck
In the parking lot of the Holiday Motel
So if you need someone to cry into your beer with
Who’d you think that you spent all those fun years with
Well I know I made you cry, but I damn sure made you laugh
So you was happy half of the time
So I’ll give you a call just as soon as I’m out of jail
I’ll meet you at the Holiday Motel
I still got your picture in my cell
I always hoped that you was doing well
Well I never got your letters
But I’ll feel a whole lot better
When I meet you at the Holiday Motel
So if you need someone to cry into your beer with
Who’d you think that you spent all those fun years with
Well I know I made you cry, but I damn sure made you laugh
So you was happy half of the time
So I’ll give you a call just as soon as I’m out of jail
I’ll meet you at the Holiday Motel
Yeah I’ll give you a call just as soon as I’m out of jail
I’ll meet you at the Holiday Motel
I’ll meet you at the Holiday Motel
I said I’ll meet you at the Holiday Motel

Bad Company
03:36
|
|||
It was the classic case of the crook and the con
Laid out the bait and took the rook with the pawn
With the criminal company that I keep
It’s a wonder that I ever get any sleep
I first fell in love with the merchant’s daughter
On the pristine banks of the boundary waters
Through the late evening fog, I could hardly see
The mark or mechanic, which one I would be
I met my match that caused the first strike
Never knowing the victim, the hustler or the like
Line up another round for me and my friends
And I’ll get around to how this story ends
It was the classic case of the crook and the con
Laid out the bait and took the rook with the pawn
With the criminal company that I keep
It’s a wonder that I ever get any sleep
The life we were leading, coke, money and cars
A new town every week, and one in every bar
It was getting too easy, made it up as we went
All jacked up and relaxed, every notion we spent
She died in my arms and took the easy way out
I swindled my own self, without a doubt
And through anger and fury, I raised up my guns
Not a one left standing, and I’m still on the run
It was the classic case of the crook and the con
I laid out the bait and took the rook with the pawn
With the criminal company that I keep
It’s a wonder that I ever get any sleep
With the criminal company that I keep
It’s a wonder that I ever get any sleep

Call You When I Land
02:34
|
|||
I’m on a seven hour layover in MKE
And I don’t think my luggage made it on
So I’m sure when I finally get to GRB
I’ll have to borrow your guitar to write this song
And I’ll need some deodorant and Sensodyne
If we can stop at that store on 41
But I can’t find reception
For my wireless plan
And I can’t reach the drummer with the van
And I’ve gotten the impression here in baggage claim
That I’ve lost half the members of my band
Call you when I land
Kim sent me pictures from her motel room
Oh, I can’t wait to see her in the flesh
She said “Babe, I really hope you get here soon
‘Cause I need you to be my special guest
See, they’ve got these dispensers in the shower here
And I can’t wait to show you how they work”
Man, I can’t find reception
For my wireless plan
And I can’t reach the driver with the van
And I’ve gotten the impression here in baggage claim
That I’ve lost half the members of my band
I’ll call you when I
I know we’re going to have a blast
When I finally get to Sturgeon Bay
Right now my luggage has been lost
So I’m writing this song while I wait
But I can’t find reception
For my wireless plan
And I can’t reach the driver with the van
And I’ve gotten the impression here in baggage claim
That I’ve lost half the members in my band
Yeah, I can’t find reception
For my wireless plan
And I can’t reach the driver with the van
And I’ve gotten the impression here in baggage claim
That I’ve lost half the drummers in my band
Call you when I land

Walk Like A Broken Horse
03:14
|
|||
I made confessions
To everyone
Under the sun
I always sung
But angels asked me to
I try to stay young
But the hands of time outdrew
You can’t change the plans
Of the heavens
For me and you
So I
Walk like a broken horse
Walk like a broken horse
Walk like a broken horse
Staggering back to you
No concentration
I find I’m never through
Stuck in a state
Of disgrace
But I’m graceful next to you
Memory serves
My heart is a slave
I have half a faith
To get me through yeah
Unbridle my love
What have you got
To lose
I wish you’d replace me
Before the odds change
‘Cause they always do
I’m flower the stars
Calling
To you
Walk like a broken horse
Walk like a broken horse
Walk like a broken horse
Staggering back to you

Dream Of The Holiday
04:05
|
|||
I will cherish all the scars that sail into my arms
And anchor them close to my soul
So show me the heart as lonely and cold
And I will love it forever
All the memories are slowly drifting away
But the words that are spoken they always remain
And the stars come alive and rescue my soul
And we all will dream of the Holiday
I have seen in the light of the loneliest stars
A hope for the loneliest souls
So show me the eyes that judge and are blind
And I will them forever
All the memories are slowly drifting away
And the words that are spoken well they’ll always remain
And the stars come alive and rescue my soul
And we all will dream of the Holiday
And we all will dream of the Holiday
And we all will dream of the Holiday
And we all will dream of the Holiday

Train To Salvation
04:37
|
|||
I’m not the kind who takes love lightly,
So, don’t you leave me, hanging on a wire,
You’re not a girl who takes the highway,
I’m not the first who stopped here for the night.
I’m riding that train, all the way to salvation,
Til I feel the wind, on my soul.
I’m taking that train, all the way to the station,
I ain’t stepping off, til I make it home.
Hand me down, those wings of ivory,
And I will give you my favorite coat,
And we’ll go wanderin’ in the midnight,
Where lonely souls, never grow old.
I’m riding that train, all the way to salvation,
Til I feel the wind, on my soul.
I’m taking that train, all the way to the station,
I ain’t stepping off, til I make it home.
I’m riding that train, all the way to salvation,
Til I feel the wind, on my soul.
I’m taking that train, all the way to the station,
I ain’t stepping off, til I make it home.
Home.

Hush Baby Hush
02:52
|
|||
Hush baby hush
Quiet for a little while
Forget about all the rush
Dream baby dream
The work can wait until tomorrow
It’s finally time to sleep
And though there is sorrow
Though there is sorrow
Creepin’ in your mind
You will find a brighter light tomorrow
I see you smile
As evening curves into the dawn
And birds lift their breasts to the sky
So rest baby rest
I’ll hold you while you close your eyes
Sing while your worries unwind
Though there is sorrow
Though there is sorrow
Creepin’ in your mind
You will find a clearer light tomorrow

Songwriter Prison
02:18
|
|||
I was in songwriter prison, I was sentenced last week
For singing in a place where they only let you speak
The judge was not amused when I sang in my defense
The reporter got confused because the lyrics made no sense
But I just kept on singing through my plastic pocket comb
As long as I have music, I will always have a home
I was in songwriter prison with a guard right by the door
He played the ukulele ‘til his fingers got too sore
Then he grabbed the bongos with tape around his thumbs
And beat them ‘til they swelled into a pair of conga drums
He forgot what he was doing, his responsibility
That’s when I maneuvered out the window and broke free
I ran into the bushes and out across the street
I ducked into an alley to escape the trailing heat
Alarms were ringing loudly and sirens filled the air
I could feel their sense of urgency in panic and despair
A helicopter hovered up above me where I hid
A garbage can betrayed me, I forgot to close the lid
I’m back in songwriter prison, and now I’m in the hole
They let me out to exercise my body and my soul
And when the hour is over, they lock me in the dark
And let me think it over, how I bolted through the park
I thank pat mAcd wherever I may roam
As long as I have music, I will always have a home
