The smoke curls as the dust rises Buildings collapse in silence When a man robs a woman They’re feeding starvin’ children But who are we stealin’ from It was our loss, it was our loss The riff raff in the gutter And the shrapnel in the garden Strains will double Looters sift through the rubble But who are we stealin’ from It was our loss, it was our loss I was lookin’ for somethin’ tender Somethin’ couldn’t remember Like a heartbeat or a hammer Never flattened by a camera But who are we stealin’ from It was our loss, it was our loss

By Design 03:49
You might wonder Are we here by our design Over, under We are looking for a sign We are listening For the beat from outer space We’re so tired Running in this human race Ba da da da Ba da da da da da da Ba da da da Ba da da da da da da And the rain came It washed us all away (washed us all away) All we wanted was the time to play (at least that’s what they say) And the crossing over To each other Is so hard to do Such a distance between me and you It’s so quiet As we round and round the sun But I am certain We are not the only ones ‘Cause here’s a message We can send it to the sky And we can wonder But we cannot wonder why Oooooh, oooooh, oooooh hahhh And the rain came And washed us all away All we wanted was the time to play And the rain came And washed us all away (washed us all away) All we wanted was the time to play (at least that’s what they say) And the crossing over To each other Is so hard to do Such a distance between me and you Ba da da da

Lost At Sea 02:38
My heart is a sinking vessel My head is filled with blood The voices ringing in my ears Of those of every woman I have loved I will not set foot upon the mountain Though I know it must be such a sight to see I will turn and face the wrong direction This’d be a good day to get lost at sea I’m dreaming in another language There’s talk of decision among the ranks The natives are a-growing restless And I’ve got a bad case of the shakes I will not set foot upon the mountain Though I know it must be such a sight to see I will turn and face the wrong direction This’d be a good day to get lost at sea Somewhere God is in a casket The dogs are circling round Waiting with tireless patience For their master to rise up from the ground I will not set foot upon the mountain Though I know it must be such a sight to see I will turn and face the wrong direction This’d be a good day to get lost, a good day to get lost, a good day to get lost at sea

It’s not my place To recognize who’s at fault But then again I ain’t dyin’ to get off And on shaky days, this child will never let all of this Stack up so high on you No teardrops On your eyelids ‘Cause this ain’t how it used to be But this ain’t how it used to be No this ain’t like it used to be No this ain’t how it’s gonna be It’s never clear How much weight We can take I’m always here to keep an eye On the place The nights won’t be so hard because I will get your back I won’t put this off on you No teardrops On your eyelids ‘Cause this ain’t how it used to be No this ain’t how it used to be This ain’t like it used to be No this ain’t how it’s gonna be

Runnin’ around playin’ cops and robbers Over fences and fields, under crop dusters There’s nothin’ you can sell Far as I can tell Where do you go when the engine quits What do you feel when your nerves are spent And the water rushes over the shore Oh you might as well jump in I followed the shadow across the oceans The color and rhythm under hypnosis There’s nothin’ you can sell Far as I can tell How do you get what you’re waitin’ for What do you feel when you feel no more And the water rushes onto the shore And the water rushes over the bridge But you might as well jump in Might as well jump in Oh you might as well jump in
7.
Big balloons Soarin’ high, all floatin’ down the lane What to do I lost you In your main street parade The stream upstream People screamin’ and the children smile and wave I got a thrill Just us two Walkin’ in the park Simple times Left behind Still shinin’ in the dark It’s not complicated I don’t need a big production All I want is your sweet lovin’ Another night Fireworks Explodin’ in your sky Slight of hand Looking up Instead of in your eye It’s not complicated I don’t need a big production All I want is your sweet lovin’ Can’t fight the crowd pushin’ and shovin’ All I want is your sweet lovin’ We learn to forgive when we make mistakes Sometimes we give, sometimes we take And every mornin’ when I wake I see Big balloons Soarin’ high, all floatin’ down the lane What to do I lost you In your main street parade You make it complicated I don’t need a big production All I want is your sweet lovin’ Can’t fight the crowd pushin’ and shovin’ All I want is your sweet lovin’ What to do I lost you In your main street parade

Standing here In the rain But your shadow still remains People run for cover as the clouds roll in I don’t hear the thunder Just your voice upon the wind Whisper softly Darling dear In this moment Let’s be clear Right or wrong knows nothing but for heaven’s gate Memories linger in the sunlight over heavy rain Sunny day You’re my sunny day You’re the eye Of the storm Love will rise out of your form Pulls me through the grey To the baby blue When the wind turns, I’ll turn my thoughts again to you You’re my sunny day

Passing Over 05:16
I’ve been lost since you’ve been found The weather has turned around Everything but the sun’s gone down Mmmmhmm I was young and you were there Was to blame but didn’t care And now I can’t find it anywhere Mmmmhmm I was holdin’ your hand I was holdin’ so tight I was holdin’ your hand I was holdin’ so tight Passin’ over Passin’ over Passin’ over from me Now the talk has left the town And the dust has settled down And my feet hold for steady ground Mmmmhmm I was holdin’ your hand I was holdin’ so tight I was holdin’ your hand I was holdin’ so tight Passin’ over Passin’ over Passin’ over from me From me From me Passin’ over Passin’ over Passin’ over Passin’ over Passin’ over Passin’ over Passin’ over from me

Other Side 04:19
A man on his way to work spills coffee on his tie A woman with a suitcase and a tear in her eye Young boy with a beer in his hand on the way to a DUI Over water, crossing time The stories that pass me by We’re all on our way Movin’ on through another day Travelin’ down the same road With different lives Just tryin’ to get to the other side Medic with a siren tryin’ to save another soul Old man and a pickup truck with a boy and fishin’ pole A truck driver with a sad face carryin’ a heavy load Over water, crossing time The stories that pass me by We’re all on our way Movin’ on through another day Travelin’ down the same road With different lives Just tryin’ to get to the other side Over water, crossing time The stories that pass me by We’re all on our way Movin’ on through another day Travelin’ down the same road With different lives yeah, yeah Just tryin’ to get to the other side We’re all on our way Movin’ on through another day Travelin’ down the same road With different lives Just tryin’ to get to the other side We’re all on our way Movin’ on through another day Travelin’ down the same road With different lives Just tryin’ to get to the other side

I am just a stranger In this troubled time Everything I’ve ever known is starting to unwind Starting to unwind I gotta keep on tryin’ One cold and stormy evenin’ Wishing I was dead I met a lonely stranger And this is what he said This is what he said I gotta keep on tryin’ Free your mind Trapped in time Intertwined with the twist in design It’s so hard to walk this line But I’ll keep on tryin’ Even when I wander off my track I fall back on what I can rely My own two seeing eyes That I can’t hide The clouds in the sky Tell me the tide is about to rise Choppy waters on a rocky shore Lookin’ back for more Pushin’ forward, I keep on tryin’ I stood there in silence Took in what he said After a moment His words rang in my head Rang in my head I gotta keep on tryin’ Oh Keep on tryin’ Keep on tryin’

The bridge goes up, the bridge goes down Joins two halves of this little town Now everybody can gather round ‘Cause the bridge goes up and the bridge goes down There’s a line of cars about ten miles long That’s enough time to sing this song Take a new bridge and that would be wrong There’s a line of cars about ten miles long The bridge went up and a boat went through Made big trouble for a little canoe Now there’s a woman in a bubble with a bad hairdo The bridge went up and a boat went through Don’t you honk, don’t you yell Waitin’ for the bridge, can’t you tell Impatient people tend to go to hell Don’t you honk, don’t you yell The bridge goes up, the bridge goes down Joins two halves of this little town Now everybody can gather round ‘Cause the bridge goes up and the bridge goes down Now everybody can gather round ‘Cause the bridge goes up and the bridge goes down Now everybody can gather round ‘Cause the bridge goes up and the bridge goes down

released June 14, 2009

2008 looked like it might be a tough year for bridge songs. A motel fire moved the Songwriters out to Beach Harbor Resort (Thanks Beach Harbor!) where, though it looked like a toy in the distance, the bridge still managed to inspire. A week of rain brought out images of water and a feeling of wanting to "get across." Taking inspiration where they could find it, the writers rose once again to the challenge, producing a brilliant rainbow of songs as impressive for its cohesiveness as for its diversity. Selecting only fourteen for this disc wasn't easy! Thanks to the writers and to the volunteers who donated hour upon hour to see this through. This collection would not have been possible without your love and support! Special thanks to Christie Weber for her unwavering vigilance and dedication. And thanks finally to the bridge herself, for bringing us all together! xo, p
