(Hum 2 x through) I was meant to arrive on a strawberry moon I was born on a bridge a month too soon I was meant to arrive on a strawberry moon I was born on a bridge a month too soon God painted me seven strokes from the sun No, I’m not broke, I’m the lucky one Wings of steel reach to the sky Not all birds were made to fly God painted me seven strokes from the sun No, I’m not broke, I’m the lucky one I was meant to arrive on a strawberry moon I was born on a bridge a month too soon God painted me seven strokes from the sun No, I’m not broke, I’m the lucky one No, I’m not broke, I’m the lucky one

Iron / by itself is soft I am like iron in that respect. Something magical, metallurgical Happens when iron and carbon connect. Carbon / is the queen of the elements That everything living has at its core. We’re so entirely different, like iron and carbon, But the sum of our parts becomes something more. I could just be iron, or We could combine Together we’d be stronger by A thousand times. I enjoy you from the riverbank But together we’d deliver An alloy with tensile strength To span across the river. Steel. We could be steel. I have a feeling that we’ll Be steel. Six and twenty-six, We’re not so far apart. We could bridge the gap On the periodic chart. We’re sentimental elements. We know we belong together. What could go wrong? Whatever! We are strong as Steel. We could be steel. I have a feeling that we’ll Be steel.

1929 04:09
Well I woke up with the sun I pulled my jacket over my shoulder. And I kissed her cheek goodbye I told her I’d be home for supper. Long days, hold my head up high Someday you’ll see why I risked my life. If I could leave a part of me To show what this town was meant to be In 1400 feet of steel, My memory will lie. This is what I leave behind In 1929. Well I fought in the war To keep my family safe from the enemy And these rivets keep me stable And this steel provides bread for my family All my life I knew That I had a larger purpose Now I see that it’s right here in front of me If I could leave a part of me To show what this town was meant to be In 1400 feet of steel, My memory will lie. This is what I leave behind In 1929. Years from now when I am gone This light will be left on. If I could leave a part of me To show what this town was meant to be In 1400 feet of steel, My memory will lie. This is what I leave behind In 1929. If I could leave a part of me To show what this town was meant to be In 1400 feet of steel, My memory will lie. This is what I leave behind In 1929.

She looks so good, it’s almost unfair The people around us can’t help but stare The ratio of her and I is a thousand to one I can’t believe she’s stayed this long She doesn’t have to try to be the star in the room A look in her eye can send my heart to the moon Her hand catches mine and I go weak in the knees My heart was locked but she has the keys Every time you catch a little glimpse in the mirror Don’t look twice or it’ll come a little clearer You would see you’re too good for me I thank the stars for low light and love at first sight I remember seein’ him at intermission One of us was huntin’, the other was fishin’ Down at the Playhouse on Third Avenue His eyes said everything I wanted to Right away I knew that he could see right through me Imagine my surprise when he came up to me A boy like him and a girl like me Never dreamed that I was gonna get that lucky Every time you catch a little glimpse in the mirror Don’t look twice or it’ll come a little clearer You would see you’re too good for me I thank the stars for low light and love at first sight Every time you catch a little glimpse in the mirror Don’t look twice or it’ll come a little clearer You would see you’re too good for me I thank the stars for low light and love at first sight

History 02:18
You’re the first thing that I wanna see, in the morning You and I, you and I, we’ve got history Been this way for oh so long my dear, I adore you You and I, you and I, we’ve got history The world’s been trying hard to tear us down But I know that I’m safe when you’re around Go ahead and close your eyes Sure as the sun will rise I’ll carry you Into the morning light I’ve been holding you up for a while, my darling You and I, you and I, we’ve got history Supporting all your hopes and all your dreams, there for ya You and I, you and I, we’ve got history The world’s been trying hard to tear us down But I know that I’m safe when you’re around Go ahead and close your eyes Sure as the sun will rise I’ll carry you Into the morning light We’ve got history (You and I) x8 We’ve got history

I’m gonna take these divorce papers Burn the damn house down Got a blank check written in the devil’s hand Gonna cash it in a river town When your ashes mix with the water All smooth and serpentine One long step from the bridge to the bottom of the river Rhine I’d eat crow in the garden of Eden Give a limb to watch you cry And I thank the good Lord Jesus For ruining your life When your ashes mix with the water I’ll peel that clementine One long step from the bridge to the bottom of the river Rhine Oooh ooh ooh oooh oooh (4x) You ground up my forgiveness You’re just the takin’ kind My heart’s been closed for business It’s well past quitting time When your ashes mix with the water I’ll have mercy on my mind One long step from the bridge to the bottom of the river Rhine One long step from the bridge to the bottom of the river Rhine

Undecided 03:34
You were a star and they shot you down, they got so angry when you left town Now they sit all alone to bleed, kiss you goodbye from a mouth to feed Oh how I wish I could help you cross, oh how I wish I could help you cross Kiss you goodbye from a mouth to feed, is it enough to get you to lead Always so ambivalent, now you’re moving through wet cement Swinging to the left of right, I gotta see you tonight You’re undecided, you’re never wrong, you’re undecided, you’re never wrong I gotta see you tonight, I got an appetite We all fall to one side or another Cuz I give you everything I have We all fall to one side or another This time will never come again Put up your buildings of brick and steel, I’ll climb the walls to watch you heal Take your pills and make a choice, truth is lost in a quiet voice Oh how I wish I could see your eyes, oh how I wish I could see your eyes Beat me senseless but I can see burning bridges in front of me We all fall to one side or another Cuz I give you everything I have We all fall to one side or another This time will never come again

Deer tracks at the crossing Heartbeats freeze with you Facing towards the sunlight You could never do Gift I gave my father Disappeared too soon Once a year I hold this Silent sturgeon moon Swimming in the desert Quiver ‘til we bloom Tides of distant oceans Pull my heart from you Gift I give my mother Disappoints me too When she sees me chasing The wild sturgeon moon Once a year I hold this Silent sturgeon moon

Joys 05:04
In 1884, the ship named “Joys” was built in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She enjoyed an uneventful life, hauling lumber and stone through the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal from Menominee to the ports of Milwaukee, Chicago, Maniste, and Michigan City. On December 23rd, 1898, we find Joys anchored in ice in the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal, with Captain Conelly sleeping soundly in the wheelhouse, dreaming of the greyhound of lumber carriers. And then I saw fire Sounded the alarm And ran Away That girl was such a workhorse Now the chaos current carries her Away, away Over There, where she burned To the waterline To the waterline And there she sank Most of us Were able, able to escape Me and my mate Jumped to the frozen lake And tried to Divert the burning hull from Her path to the Government house There, where she burned To the waterline To the waterline And there she sank There, where she burned To the waterline To the waterline And there she sank The steamer Joys, which docked at Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal, burned at an early hour. The fire originated from the smokestack and burned the vessel to the water’s edge. Subsequent assessment of the damage determined her to be a total loss. Several tons of iron, mostly bolts, were taken from her hull, while the propeller wheel, shaft, rudder, and shoe were also removed. She now lies by Sunset Park on the east shore, her hull flattened and scattered by ice where she was unceremoniously abandoned. There, where she burned To the waterline To the waterline And there she sank There, where she burned To the waterline To the waterline And there she sank There, where she burned To the waterline To the waterline And there she sank

At the end of the day You’re running on fumes And burning your bridges to keep warm. You’ve lost your way And all of your friends But never you mind The coming storm. We can talk about the good things For they always make you smile Through the heartache and pain The thunder and the rain We can talk about the good things. When it’s cold and it’s dark And the memories fade You’re aching for someone to shine a light. So you play your part Out on that stage Cause even when it’s wrong, It’s still all right. When we talk about the good things They always make you smile Through the heartache and pain The thunder and the rain We can talk about the good things We can talk about the good things Baby, hold on tight ‘Til the sun Starts to rise When you feel the light Then your heart can find A way to shine, A way to shine. When we talk about the good things They always make you smile Through the heartache and pain The thunder and the rain We can talk all about the good things. We can talk all about the good things. We can talk all about

Shut Me Down 02:35
Have you heard about the gossip Only most of it is true This small town keeps getting smaller And everyone has heard the news Shut me down Shut me down If you let me hang around You’re gonna watch me run my mouth Shut me down Shut me down I’m so tired of the sound Of my own voice Won’t you help me drown it out Won’t you help me drown it out I worked real hard to be in exile Disregarded every law But you know that’s a bad way to go Now everybody wishes I’d go home Shut me down Shut me down If you let me hang around You’re gonna watch me run my mouth Shut me down Shut me down I’m so tired of the sound Of my own voice Won’t you help me drown it out Won’t you help me drown it out Won’t you help me drown it out

Tonight could be the night And the only end in sight Is the morning light breaking through your window Well, I’ve never spent the night But I’ve got a feeling I might And my excitement is hitting a crescendo Smelling fresh and clean I pressed my favorite jeans Ready for my date with destiny (destiny!) I took the normal route Sign says the bridge is out??? Seems circumstances got the best of me Chorus: Well, I locked my front door Now I’m standin’ at the shore Trying to figure out what I should do My plans are headed south Cuz that old steel bridge is out So I have to take the long way ‘round to you Don’t wanna miss my shot It’s the only one I’ve got It’s too early in the season to be skating So do I dig a hole Do I get a vaulting pole It’s never wise to leave a lady waiting Chorus Tried to build a boat But the damn thing wouldn’t float Just thinkin’ ‘bout that water makes me shiver (brrr) I don’t know how to swim But I might just dive right in I’ve got a might precious package to deliver (shrinkage!) Chorus x2

Let me tell you a story ‘bout Sturgeon Bay ‘Bout the time they were invaded by a big dumb ape How the people came together to answer the call Defend against an ape forty stories tall King Kong came to Sturgeon Bay Looks like he’s come here to stay You could hear the people say How can we make him go away Teeth long as your arm, sharp as knives, Come to tear apart our lives They stood up strong, and all could feel, That they were part of something real Guitars like guns, bullets of song Don’t sound like much, and it could take long Fought the odds, to prove him wrong He might be bigger but he ain’t so strong He can try to eat us alive His power may seem to thrive But despite his strength and size, The voice of the people will survive Broken teeth, bones of steel, Proved to be too tough a meal Ran that ape right out of town But to this day we look around Can you see the footprints in the ground? A shadow lingering o’er the town It was thirteen years ago, almost to the day When the beast came to town and was sent away And the bridge still stretches out across the bay You can see that steel shining on a sunny day

We got a house full of liars, And climate deniers, Selling us out to the highest of buyers, Mercury rising and oceans on fire, Better believe it… The temperature’s hotter, We can’t drink the water, (Hey!) This is no place for our sons and our daughters, Who can’t understand, Our increasing demand, For these guns in our hands and the lives that they slaughter. We see the corporations leaching North America, Richie Rich and the Russians laugh hysterical, Popping bottles while we swimming in the chemicals, Better believe it, Take it or leave it. These are the wages of sin, We are, we are god in skin, But we got to free ourselves from this madness, This is madness. These are the wages of sin, We are, we are god in skin, But we got to free ourselves from this madness, This is madness. Drone strike in the middle of Ramadan, One click miles away and the city’s gone, Blood spills in the school auditorium, Better believe it! Assaulting the women and calling them bitches, Selling us off to your corporate interests, Telling us all we need walls and not bridges, Better believe it, Take it or leave it. These are the wages of sin, We are, we are god in skin, But we got to free ourselves from this madness, This is madness, This is madness. This is madness.

I want to stay in an old motel Heavy curtains block the sirens and the sun All alone on a satin pillow And reality to hold my fantasy down Oh winter river, why do you hide away behind cloudy plates of grey and green Oh winter river, you will be mine when this bridge crumbles under my feet The old couple next door keeps knocking on the wall, I left before they pulled the ceiling down I walked a hundred yards for a sunset, My dear you have the best view in town Oh winter river, why do you hide away behind cloudy plates of grey and green Oh winter river, you will be mine when this bridge crumbles under my feet I will wait for the sun to set you free I will wait for the sun to set you free Oh winter river, why do you hide away behind cloudy plates of grey and green Oh winter river, you will be mine when this bridge crumbles under my feet Under my feet

Here I stand in the middle of the night I’ve been wandering for hours it seems All my years I’ve watched the moving lights Planets in my dreams Falling faster I’m not scared, it will be over soon Hit the bay and I’ll awake safe in my own room Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh But the water never felt so far away Shadows behind me, the unknown up ahead Sink into the pillows on my bed Safety in numbers, “Never fear,” the whispers said “Step right off of the edge” Falling faster I’m not scared, it will be over soon Hit the bay and I’ll awake safe in my own room Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh But the water never felt so far away Falling faster I’m not scared, it will be over soon Hit the bay and I’ll awake safe in my own room Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh But the water never felt so far away

Slow your roll. Slow your roll. No pissing on the bridge. Slow your wake, son. Slow your roll, son. Hey bridge-tender, bridge-tender. I got a barge full of garbage to get to Michigan By morning. Hey bridge-tender, bridge-tender. I got a car full of kids and I’m lookin’ at an open bridge This morning. Bridge goes up. Got to wait. Don’t get mad. Get over it. Bridge goes down. Look around. Stay put. Don’t go under it. Bridge goes up. Sit back. Turn the radio on. Relax. Bridge goes down. Sit tight. Enjoy the scenery. There’s the granary. Wait. Wait. Wait. Hey bridge-tender, bridge-tender. I got a yacht. I got to get it back to a dock in Illinois By morning. Hey bridge-tender, bridge-tender. I got a tug. We got a situation with a freighter in the lake This morning. Wait.

Drive on in Stop on by Just a stone’s throw from the waterside Drink a bit of coffee Chew the fat Authentic down-home little habitat The view’s just fine Don’t touch it The view’s just fine Why would you muss it? Just take your time The view’s just fine ‘Specially when you setting by the waterside No concierge, no maître d’ No artificial sugar in your coffee or tea No Jacuzzi No bidet Just a skinny dip in the nearest bay The view’s just fine Don’t touch it The view’s just fine Why would you muss it? Just take your time The view’s just fine ‘Specially when you setting by the waterside No big box store, no chain food stand Pick a pail of cherries with your own two hands Natural beauty A tree-lined path Super simple value when you do the math The view’s just fine Don’t you touch it The view’s just fine Why would you muss it? Just take your time The view’s just fine ‘Specially when you setting by the waterside The view’s just fine I said the view’s just fine Just take your time The view’s just fine ‘Specially when you setting by the waterside

Every day our hearts reach across the bay Every day our hearts reach across the bay Do do do do Do do do do Do do do do Every day, every day our hearts reach across the bay Every day, every day our hearts reach across the bay We’re raising the bridge, raising the bar Raising consciousness to take us far Spreading love, all around Together we stand our ground Every day, every day our hearts reach across the bay Every day, every day our hearts reach across the bay We’re raising the bridge, raising the bar Raising consciousness to take us far Spreading love, all around Together we stand our ground Do do do do every day Do do do do every day Do do do do every day Do do do do every day Every day, every day our hearts reach across the bay Every day, every day our hearts reach across the bay Every every every day, every day our hearts reach across the bay Every day our hearts reach across the bay Across the bay

Roots in the soil, they run deep Letting this willow grow as high as it can reach. Climbing for the sun, climbing for the sky But this willow would go nowhere without roots to hold on tight. Can we hold on to what holds us together. Nails and mortar holding up these walls Without either one of them, this house would surely fall Just like beams of steel reaching shore to shore Keeping this town together. Can we hold on To what holds us together Lord you know, it’s now or never Hold on to what holds us together. They’ll break us if we let ‘em, So let’s hold on to what holds us together. City streets are bustlin’, shoes running around People forget gravity keeps our feet on the ground. Just like a zipper holding end to end, Keepin’ us from remembering where we began. All the children reaching up for a hand, All the mothers and fathers sailing ships across the land. Can we hold on To what holds us together Lord you know, it’s now or never Hold on to what holds us together. They’ll break us if we let ‘em, so let’s Hold on to what holds us all together. All the children reaching up for a hand, All the mothers and fathers sailing ships across the land. Can we hold on To what holds us together Lord you know, it’s now or never Hold on to what holds us together. They’ll break us if we let ‘em, so let’s Hold on to what holds us all together. Holds us all together Hold us together

No Deal 03:14
Closed doors to avoid the crowds Passing laws when nobody’s around Making deals in the shadows of the night Palms are greased and ready to please Alder boys down on their knees Whispered words hidden from the light And I say thanks but no I won’t join the party Leave it alone And be on your way You can’t drag me across Your bridge to nowhere I say no deal You’re trying to steal The soul of Sturgeon Bay Take the power, grab the land Show them all the back of your hand Skim off the top and make other people pay Steal the scene, shred the plot Dumb hotel and a parking lot Tell ‘em lies no matter what they say And I say thanks but no I won’t join the party Leave it alone And be on your way You can’t drag me across Your bridge to nowhere I say no deal You’re trying to steal The soul of Sturgeon Bay And I say thanks but no I won’t join the party Leave it alone And be on your way You can’t drag me across Your bridge to nowhere I say no deal You’re trying to steal The soul of Sturgeon Bay The soul of Sturgeon Bay

I’m just tryin’ to get across My point on you is always lost Lost without me, you have no clue Don’t try to engage me ‘cause I’m sick of you No, no Not gonna convince you to change your mind To mind your words and let love be blind Brain waves are out of phase It’s a tailspin, a never-ending chase No, oh no Oh no, no There’s a rhythm to the schizm There’s a schizm in the beat There’s a rhythm to the schizm And it’s doomed to repeat Ad nauseam I’m just tryin’ to get across Seems so hopeless, sometimes I’m lost If there’s a chance that you might see We’ll cross that bridge eventually Oh no, oh no Oh no, no There’s a rhythm to the schizm There’s a schizm in the beat There’s a rhythm to the schizm And it’s doomed to repeat Ad nauseam Ad nauseam Ad nauseam Every schizm has a rhythm, every rhythm has a beat Every schizm has a rhythm, every rhythm has a beat There’s a rhythm to the schizm There’s a schizm in the beat There’s a rhythm to the schizm And it’s doomed to repeat Ad nauseam And it’s doomed to repeat Repeat (x14) Ad nauseam

This is a song about a man and his bridge Who brought all his friends to protest And we were all upset That the man and his bridge weren’t safe The only way that I can tell the truth Is when I’m here and a little drunk I’ll be the first to admit I know all of you have heard me write this shit But let’s be honest, none of this makes sense I come here and have to boss around my friends It’s therapy, at best for me You return all the love You return all the love That’s been beaten out of me And I’ve been coming here for ten years and some change As an advocate to save a bridge And if you asked me how I feel about it all I’d tell you It’s my most important role This is a song about a man and his bridge
